“Oil pulling is one of the most remarkable methods of detoxification and healing I have ever experienced… It helped me overcome a chronic skin problem that [I was previously] unable to cure.”
- Dr. Bruce Fife, naturopath doctor, nutritionist, and master detoxer
When I first heard that quote, I had two thoughts:
- What the heck is oil pulling?
- Whatever it is, I gotta check it out!
For those of you who are in the dark like I was, oil pulling is an ancient detoxification art that started in India as oil gargling thousands of years ago.
In 1992, Dr. F. Karach, MD introduced oil pulling in the US and used it in his medical practice with great success.
I started this practice a few months ago and wow, what a difference this has made in my life! I literally no longer feel the need to brush my teeth. I know this may sound weird but that’s how well oil pulling cleans my mouth! Furthermore, my sinuses have never been clearer, my headaches have disappeared, and I feel that it is really helping my body detoxify while on Bee’s diet.
I highly recommend it for anyone that has canker sores, teeth abscesses, sinus issues, etc. I’m still trying to convince my hubby, who is still a bit skeptical, to get onboard… wish me luck!
Why not try doing it for a week and see if you notice the difference?
How it works
It’s easy. Just take a tablespoon of raw vegetable oil and swish it around in your mouth for five minutes. Doing so activates enzymes that have a powerful detoxifying affect on our entire system; they literally pull toxins, bacteria, fungus, and other nasty bugs from the mouth and the entire body, helping to cleanse our blood. Since our mouths are a focal point for bacteria and microorganisms that mix with our saliva and eventually reach our bloodstream, you can see how wiping these bad guys out with oil pulling makes a profound impact on our bodies.
According to long-time devotees, oil pulling has the power to alleviate migraine headaches, asthma, diabetes, bronchitis, diseased teeth, chronic blood disorders such as leukemia, arthritis, eczema, heart and kidney disease, meningitis, hormonal disorders, etc.
How to do oil pulling
Pull toxins from your blood and freshen your breath in five easy steps.
- Find a high-quality vegetable oil. Most people use cold-pressed sunflower or sesame oils. I prefer using raw coconut oil since it is one of the healthiest oils in the world and helps boost the thyroid.
- Right after you wake up, drink a glass or two of water to start your saliva flow and then take about 1 tablespoon of oil into your mouth. Swish it around for as long as you can. Start with 5 minutes and gradually increase to 15 to 20 minutes. I plop it into my mouth and swish away as I make my breakfast and pack my lunch.
- Do not swallow the oil, as it will be loaded with toxins! (But don’t beat yourself up if you accidentally do.) It is vital to spit out this oil after 15-20 minutes of swishing. Spit it out in the trash (not the sink as it can clog pipes) because this is the safest, cleanest and best way to eliminate used oil.
- Be sure to wash out your mouth thoroughly to help clean out any lingering bacteria or toxins.
- Ta da! You’re done. Now go about your day knowing that you’ve done a great thing for your overall healing.
If you’re already healthy, a once a day oil pulling will help keep you that way. If you have more acute conditions, gradually build up to oil pulling 3 times a day before each meal.
So, who out there has tried it? Please share your experience with us! For those that are new to it, check back in with us and let us know how it goes for you.

I bought a bottle of organic sesame oil and I have intentions of trying it. I just haven’t bit the bullet yet
Maybe I’ll do it when Mike does…

I think I’ll give it a try next week.
I’m so good at deciphering G’s miming in the mornings, I may as well develop my own non-verbal skills.

Yes! Mike, I think this will be good and can replace your canker sore medicine :)>.
Jen, let me know if you notice any differences…
Happy Healing!

Hi, I have been pulling oil since about three months and it has gotten rid of joint pain, constipation, bad breath, even my periods are coming more regularly.
However, from where I have heard of oil pulling, they say it should be done on an absolutely empty stomach, not even that glass of water. All I do is rinse my mouth with water before I start pulling oil.

Hi Grasshopper!
That sounds good to me. So great to hear all of your success with it. I’ve heard mixed things about when to do. I do mine first thing in morning and sometimes before lunch or dinner.
I read to wait at least 3 hours after you eat anything if you want to do later in the day.
In terms of water or no water… I just go by how I feel. If I’m thirsty, I drink a glass of water before I do. If I’m not, I just do on an empty stomach. I find it effective either way.
Hope that helps and keep me posted on how your health improves :)>.

Regarding your Salt Lamps to Counteract EMFs video, just a little additional detail could be included.
First of all, the additional ionization provided by the lamp is ONLY helping to counteract effects, NOT negate them. In other words, whatever damage EMFs are doing (especially the really strong ones around power transmission lines), the inhaled ions from the lamp are simply going into you and helping repair damage. But even THEY can get overwhelmed if too much EM is present. Salt lamps cannot prevent EMFs’ initial effects.
A simple test to prove it to yourself is this: EMFs are basically radio waves, all up and down the spectrum from shortwave thru AM thru FM all the way up to gamma and X-rays. To see if a salt lamp is actually affecting the presence of these waves, turn on your radio, and put the lighted salt lamp next to it. Over it. All around it. Notice it does NOT in the least affect the ability of the radio to pick up ambient EMF (radio-wave) transmissions… the radio continues merrily playing its music. Hence, YOU are continuing to “pick up” those same frequencies, much like a radio antenna, due to the high water content in our bodies. (Ever grab a radio antenna and hear the radio get louder and clearer? We are acting as an external, auxiliary antenna, feeding extra waves into the radio’s aerial!)
Anyway, to REALLY block all EMFs, I have a small round room under construction at my property in Muskoka, sitting out back in the yard. It has three layers of grounded mesh degaussing materials (available at any hardware store and/or supermarket) layered into the walls and ceiling and grounded-out at multiple points. Radios of ANY kind, any frequency, pick up nothing in this room. It totally screens EMF “from DC to Daylight”, as the techies would say.
It’s cheap to build, too, and uses zero energy; in fact, it’s drawing the radio-wave energy from the local air and grounding it.
To sleep in there one or two nights a week is amazingly rejuvenative, restful and re-aligning. Learned this from a similar room back in Toronto at a friend’s place.
